Programs

HALTER, Inc. offers a variety of services targeted at special needs children,
families and at risk teens. HALTER focuses primarily on programs that
benefit children. HALTER believes the horses entrusted to it care should
be utilized to their fullest capacity in several different programs as
appropriate.

Miniature
Horse Program |
|
|
|
This program is designed to
provide special needs children and adults an opportunity to exercise,
build confidence and self-esteem through training and/or showing miniature
horses. The training
sessions are structured to meet the specific exercise or mental needs of
each participant. Horses are provided for training and shows at no
cost to the participant; however, actual show fees and attire is the
participant's responsibility. |

Pet
Therapy |
|
|
|
HALTER
horses and other animals provide a useful service as pet therapy
animals. HALTER directors and volunteers transport the miniature
horses, at no cost to the organization, to area picnics for special needs
children, hospices, nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities. For
a small donation HALTER will visit your school of community festival.
HALTER visitations have included Texas Children's Hospital, the Briarwood
School, Texanna Mental Health Facility, Incentives, and the Downs Syndrome
Association to name a few. Local life skill classes from over ten different
area schools have made a field trip to HALTER. Contact us to
schedule your visit. |

At
Risk Teens |
|
|
|
Area
teens identified by the schools or other authorities as having problems or
at risk for problems are invited to assist in the care of the miniature
horses. Youth who have received court appointed community service
hours through Judge Yeoman's court in Harris County have
logged over 500 hours at the HALTER facility. HALTER also partners
with a local teen drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility to provide
Pet Therapy and an opportunity for residents to participate in community
service.

Community Service |
| |
|
|
HALTER can provide a unique opportunity to any group such as: the Boy
and Girl Scouts of America, civic clubs, schools or church's to
participate in a service project that is both worthwhile and fun.
Participants can provide a community service while simultaneously earning
a badge, completing a service project or fulfilling community
service hours. This is the perfect opportunity to learn about horses
while assisting the needs of individuals with learning or physical
disabilities. Several Girl Scout troops have already visited the
facility to work towards a badge and our obstacle course was designed and built by a boy scout
working towards becoming an eagle scout.
On National Youth Service Day, Northbrook Middle School work at HALTER
clearing brush, painting the barns and helping with general cleanup.
The grant they received for the project allowed them to purchase some
rakes, wheelbarrows, brushes and paint. Thanks Northbrook for
choosing HALTER.

Sports Educational and Recreational Riding |
|
|
|
Sports
Educational and Recreational Lead Line Riding is currently
available for toddlers and children under 50 pounds. Although this
program is designed with special needs children in mind any child is
welcome to participate. What a great way to introduce your child
or grandchild to horses. HALTER's
program is designed to provide both sensory and muscular stimulation
through horseback riding. The program fee is dependent on the
needs of each participant. |
